 Early social campaigner is commemorated
The Fabian Society and the Webb Memorial Trust have launched a major project to commemorate the work of Beatrice Webb in the year running up to the centenary of her 1909 Minority Report that she wrote for the Poor Law Reform Commission. Her report was a radical critique of poverty and called for an end to the Poor Law and the establishment of a welfare state. It heavily influenced William Beveridge’s 1942 report which led to the implementation of our modern welfare system. Jenni is joined by Tim Horton of the Fabian Society and biographer Carole Seymour-Jones to discuss Beatrice and the legacy of her work.
