Reworking the myths that shape our identity
From the Oedipus to the Odyssey to the Oresteia, Classical mythology has provided much of the subject matter for Western literature, music, theatre and in more recent years – cinema. So why do these ancient myths still endure? And what is it that draws women to re-imagine myths that were so often written from a male perspective? Jenni talks to novelist Ali Smith and to Professor Griselda Pollock.
'Girl meets Boy: the myth of Iphis' by Ali Smith is published by Canongate Books Ltd, ISBN-13: 978-1841958699 The Orpheus Theme in Modern Culture at the University of Leeds, 23-25 November 2007Disclaimer
