Teaching Kids About Money 27 Sept 2007
Cheque book
Should parents bail out their kids if they get into financial trouble at college?

Parents across the nation are packing their children off to university – and many students will be managing their own living expenses for the first time. So what happens when that phone call comes asking mum and dad for some more money? How do you support them, but also teach financial responsibility and acumen? And what if it’s a moot point – you couldn’t help even if you wanted to, because you just don’t have the cash? It’s a real worry because latest estimates say the class of 2007 will owe anything between 15 and 20 thousand pounds, on average, by the time they leave.
Jenni is joined by Chris Tapp, who left university 3 years ago with a substantial debt, and Carmel Stewart, who has put three children through University to discuss whether you should step in and bail your kids out if they get into financial trouble.
