Women Prommers 3rd Sept 2007
BBC Proms Photo Chris Christodoulou
This Saturday sees the culmination of the BBC Proms Season when the Royal Albert Hall in London will play host to thousands of music enthusiasts for the Last Night of the Proms. Originally performed in The Queen’s Hall, until it was bombed during the second world war, the Prommers – the people who occupy the ‘promenading,’ unseated sections of the hall are now housed in the gallery at around the top of the Albert Hall and the arena in the centre. The Prommers are a special breed – many of them are season ticket holders who attend practically all of the concerts during the summer. With Brahms and Sibelius on the bill, played by the European Union Youth Orchestra, conducted by Sir Colin Davis, Louise Adamson joined some of the female prommers as they queued to get into the concert.

“The Proms - A New History" edited by Jenny Doctor and David Wright. Published by Thames & Hudson ISBN-13:978-0-500-51352-1
