Women and Cycling
Girls and women are often reluctant to cycle, so what can be done to encourage them?

The number of cyclists – at least in London – has soared by 83 per cent since 2000. But men still cycle twice as often as women and tend to ride much further. Cycling is quick, economical and healthy – as well as being environmentally sound. But many are scared to take to the roads because they are worried about safety. And there are other reasons why girls and women may be reluctant – turning up sweaty at the school gates is perhaps not ideal if you are under increasing pressure to look cool. So what can be done to encourage more girls and women to get on their bikes?
