Work
Della Cannings 14 June 2007
Della Cannings
She’s been described as a ‘ball of fire’, ‘courageous’, and the consummate Chief Constable, yet when Della Cannings started her career as a police officer in the 1970s, there were few women role-models for her to emulate. She joins Miriam O'Reilly to talk about her involvement in hostage negotiation, the co-ordination of police efforts for the total eclipse of the sun in 1999, and why she’s decided to retire when many feel she still has much to offer policing in the UK.
