The Russian Journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered outside her house last October. She was the thirteenth journalist to be killed in a contract style killing since Putin came to power in 2000. Despite the danger she was in, Anna felt it was her duty to continue reporting about the plight of millions of Russians under Vladimir Putin’s presidency, and refused to accept a bodyguard or heed her family’s pleas to leave the country.
Anna’s sister, Elena Kudimova, talks to Jenni about Anna and the book she completed before her killing ‘A Russian Diary’, which covers the period between the Russian parliamentary elections in 2003 and the tragic aftermath of the Beslan school siege in 2005.
‘A Russian Diary’ by Anna Politkovskaya is published by Random House, ISBN: 9781846551024.
Anna Politkovskaya's book will be one of those featured on BBC Radio 4's Book Of The Week special focusing on contemporary Russia beginning on Easter Monday - hers will be broadcast on 10th April.
