Greta Scacchi was once described by Ismail Merchant, as an "eternal beauty - a combination of Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly". Best known for her roles in Heat and Dust and Presumed Innocent she turned down Sharon Stone's role in Basic Instinct in favour of lower profile roles with less "offensive" scripts. Her new role sees her cast as a frustrated drama teacher in the first of a new series of Afternoon Plays on BBC1 and on this morning's Woman's Hour she joins Ritula to discuss how she felt being pigeon-holed as a sexual icon, her aversion to Hollywood and why it is increasingly difficult to find work as a mature actress. |
