 |
Travelling around Bolivia, teacher Holly Sheldon and her mother, Jenny, were caught up in a terrifying ordeal when the minibus they were travelling in took a detour down a narrow side street in La Paz. The bus was stopped and masked gunmen jumped aboard. The women were bound, blindfolded and taken to a sparsely furnished house. They talk to Ritula about their kidnapping ordeal, what it was like to be held at gunpoint, and what effect it had on their mother/daughter relationship. They will be joined by David Atkinson, author of a new guidebook to Bolivia who has many years’ experience of travelling in South America. He’ll be discussing the dangers faced by independent travellers and ways to minimise the risks involved.
A full account of Holly and Jenny’s experiences will appear in the Times 2 supplement of The Times newspaper on January 18th 2007
