History
Lola Montez 05 Jan 2007
Reproduction of a painting of Lola by Jules Laure/Mary Evans
She was the woman whose dancing was said to ‘write Casanova’s memoirs with her body’. Born in 1821, ‘Lola Montez’ found international fame with her beauty and lascivious dancing, and her lovers included Liszt and King Ludwig I. But the story she told of her noble Spanish heritage was a fantasy, concocted to seduce and thrill.

Writer James Morton joins Carolyn to talk about his new biography of Lola, the woman behind the persona, and how her life became a lie.

James Morton's book 'Lola Montez - Her Life and Conquests' is published by Piatkus Books and is available from January 4th. The ISBN number is 074995115X
