Family
Dear Charlie 27 Oct 2006
On Saturday 3rd December 2005, thirteen year old Charlie Thompson set off on a shopping trip with her best friend. They bought their train tickets at the local station and, as there was no footbridge, they crossed the track to the opposite platform. Both girls were killed by a fast train.

Devastated at the loss of his daughter in such a senseless accident, Reg Thompson began writing letters to her about how the family was coping. Nearly one year on from the terrible accident his letters are to be published in a book.

Martha talks to Reg about what made him write and how it has helped him to deal with the death of his daughter.

Dear Charlie: Letters to a Lost Daughter by Reg Thompson will be published by John Murray on 2nd November 2006 ISBN: 0719563488

It is book of the week on BBC Radio 4 beginning on  Monday 30th November at 9.30am.
