Honour crimes 27 July 2006
police line
There an estimated twelve so-called honour murders in the UK every year, but they represent only the extreme end of a much larger problem of intimidation and abuse. Police and campaigners say there are many more instances of honour violence that go unchallenged and the Metropolitan force is currently re-examining over a hundred murder cases, some of which it is now believed may have been honour killings. A lthough women are primarily the victims of honour killings police are discovering cases of men also being killed in this way.
