Jeremy Irons on male friendships 22 Mar 2006
After an absence from the London stage for 17 years, Jeremy Irons is currently starring in a new play in London called Embers, which explores the friendship between two men.

The play is set in war-torn Europe in 1940, in a Hungarian castle, where a retired general Henrik awaits the arrival of Konrad, a friend he has not seen for 41 years. During the evening Henrik reflects on the events leading up to Konrad’s sudden and mysterious departure back in 1899. The passing of so many years has not dulled Henrik’s memory of that day nor answered the questions that still haunt him.

Martha Kearney discusses male friendships with Jeremy Irons and journalist and author Mark Simpson.

Embers opened at the Duke of York's Theatre on 1 March and is currently scheduled to finish on 27 May.
