Stripping has been a part of entertainment and pop-culture since the late 19th century when theatre, cabaret and vaudeville were at their height of popularity, and burlesque emerged as a new form of entertainment.
Although stripping still exists, the nightclub stage act known as the striptease faded from popularity in the late 1960s. We look at the heyday of striptease, its demise, and ask whether today's resurgence in neo-Burlesque is really an empowering choice by the women involved.
