"My coexistence with Radio 4 goes back to the beginning of my life. First it was background noise inflicted on me by parents. Then, at 18 years of age, training as a nurse, Brian Redhead became the only advantage to getting up for the early shift. Five years on, I was a midwife, and still a specialist on the extreme hours of the radio schedule. Then began the ten "invisible mother" years where it was me, the four babies, and the radio. We were best friends. It was my encyclopedia for knowledge when I couldn't string three words together being so worn out. My day was timetabled according to the Radio 4 schedule (poor kids). Ideas that there were other choices out there in the "real" world began swirling around my head. In the moments I snatched for me, I started to draw, rekindling an earlier passion. Another ten years on and I am now a second year student on a BA illustration course. This was a little gouache drawing from last week (while listening to the radio of course).
