"Radio 4 has been in my home since I can remember. It has kept me sane through periods of repressed creative endeavour and through times of abundant artistic productivity. I listen whilst I paint, cook and eat. The depth of debate, be it metaphysic, politic, scientific or philosophic, has informed my mind when all about has been in confusion. It has entertained and engaged when little else would. When I paint I am ... ‘Lifted above the whirl of shifting phenomena’ ... into a ‘metaphysical solace’, I can’t remember who I’m quoting ... maybe I should pay more attention to Radio 4."
