Vanessa Pooley was born and grew up in Norwich, England. From an early age she wanted to make sculptures of women. Throughout her training at Norwich School of Art she concentrated on the female figure. It is a passion that has never left her.
Vanessa continued her training at the City and Guilds of London Art College. From there she worked in lively professional group studios in London and had her first one-person show in 1985.
Five years ago, after two decades in London, she moved back to Norwich with her husband, an art therapist, and her two sons now aged seven and 10. Here the work has continued to evolve. She has embarked on larger pieces and, with the help of a local founder, works exclusively in cast bronze. Vanessa's work is now in more demand than ever.
In 2003 Vanessa was elected fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
