Stephen Mumberson was born in 1955 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and now lives in Stockwell, London. He attended Brighton Polytechnic where he earned a BA (Hons) Fine Arts, and then continued on to earn a Specialist Printmaking Distinction. He then attended the Royal College of Art where he earned an MA in Printmaking.
Since the completion of his own education, he has been very involved with others' education. He has been a visiting lecturer in Printmaking at West Surrey College of Art and Design, an Associate Lecturer in Print and Paint at Middlesex Polytechnic, and a Sessional Lecturer in Drawing and Print at the London College of Furniture, Bournemouth College of Art and at Brighton Polytechnic.
He has had five solo shows at the Young Vic Theatre, City Arts Associate, Creaser Gallery, Art Now and the Museum of Mankind, all in London.
In 1985, he had a kite design commissioned by the Victoria and Albert Museum. He also was awarded a Printmaking Fellowship at the Royal College of Art in 1989.
Stephen became an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1991 and a full Member in 1995.
