Annie Williams
Annie Williams "I must get the hoovering done before 10 o'clock, there's something on Woman's Hour I want to listen to, I have a deadline to meet and three unfinished paintings, the call of the studio and my old transistor radio is a strong one - I may have to leave the cleaning."

Radio 4 and I have grown up together, my constant companion during my working hours, one who doesn't interrupt or demand a response. I can't imagine doing any other job. There's nothing so satisfying as a painting beginning to work and a good day on the radio, and woe betide anyone who should telephone when The Archers is on.

I even have a little wind-up radio to take outdoors to ensure I don't miss the Classic Serial, and the gummed tape used to stretch my paper is often covered with notes, tips, or recipes. Do you think they will let me take paints and Radio 4 to my desert island?
Annie Williams was born in 1942 in London but grew up in Wales. She trained and worked as a nurse before studying Fine Art at City and Guilds from 1966 to 1969.

Her recent work has been almost entirely still-life. She enjoys playing with shapes, pattern and colour, mixing the familiar with some abstraction, and precision with suggestion. Her foregrounds are a few simple objects, usually pots, and backgrounds are created from textiles or old newspaper cuttings, and even some unfinished paintings as a starting point.

She has had one-woman shows at the Baker Tilly Gallery, Grape Lane Gallery and Warwick University. Awards include a travel scholarship to Florence, The Artist Magazine Award at the Mall Galleries, and various awards from the RWS open exhibition 21st Century Watercolour. Annie is an Associate Member of both the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
