The Blue Room at The Social
Updated 04 Nov 2002
It's Friday night, and whilst Fergie and Grooverider get things pumping in different parts of town, over at The Social, it's a little more laid back, as The Blue Room bring their distinctive brand of underground music to the opening night of One Live In Nottingham. With Blue Room boys Rob Da Bank and Chris Coco spinning tunes to open the show, and guests amillionsons (DJ set) and Neon Heights (DJing and performing live), One Live In Nottingham certainly kicked off in style. "Eclectic honey!"
Those folks from Neon Heights give us the lowdown on the Notts. scene...

"There's a really big scene in Nottingham, which we're happy to be part of, and the undercurrent is rising at the moment. Hopefully Neon Heights will be a part of the future sound of Nottingham."

"It's amazing what's going off here. All the foundations are there, we've all been studying on our own little tips for ages and everyone's got communal. If people want keys on something or beats on something, people will swap around. Tom's probably played with 20 or 30 of the people in the crowd tonight!"

"Nottingham has been well known for deep house music and the house music scene for a long, long time, but there's all sorts of different music going on, every single genre. There's a big hip hop scene here, there's a big chill out scene, rock bands... What needs to happen is A&R guys have to get off their arses and actually travel further afield and find the real music. It's happening all the time here."

"The thing about Nottingham is that it's got a real creative vibe going on. There's an underground and creative thing going on, like Bristol. There's lots of people who are totally into music. You see that people are collaborating and making things happen for themselves, which just encourages other people to get involved."

"Our sound? It's alright, it's okay, we blag it for another day really! A bit of gospel, a bit of guitar... eclectic honey! Tempos don't matter."
