Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu and its remote villages are starting the recovery a week on from being struck by a devastating earthquake. For some global listeners, coverage from the BBC World Service has been informative and wide-ranging. But other listeners question why such a significant portion of the early reports focused on both Westerners in the country and climbers on Mount Everest. Senior commissioning editor Steve Titherington and Navin Singh Khadka, the BBC World Service’s environment reporter who is from Nepal, examine the challenges of reporting from remote areas under treacherous conditions.
