Can the US and China make AI safer?

As the American and Chinese leaders prepare to meet, many are asking if they can rein in AI from going rogue. The US and China dominate the frontier and biggest models, and voices in both countries are urging greater safety measures as AI becomes increasingly powerful. So can they work together? Or is the rivalry and suspicion between the two great powers too big to overcome?
