Beverley Knight brings to life another item from V&A East's The Music Is Black exhibition
Beverley Knight rocks and rolls us back to the 30s and brings to life the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who features in V&A East's inaugural exhibition The Music Is Black.
Feelgood dance floor favourites, hidden gems and fresh tunes to make you groove. DJ Spoony serves up a brilliant selection of soulful house, classic soul, disco, RnB, UK garage, reggae, hip-hop, doo-wop, funk, dance remixes and everything in-between.
Throughout June DJ Spoony is shining a light on artefacts from V&A East Museum's inaugural exhibition, The Music is Black, a celebration of Black British music. Tonight legendary singer Beverley Knight takes us back to the 1930s and the advent of Rock 'n' Roll as she tells the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. You can listen to Spoony's special two-hour show 'The Music Is Black: DJ Spoony's Selection', on BBC Sounds. Spoony has another edition of his addictive guessing game ‘Music Is The Answer’. Will you be able to work out which song Spoony will be playing later in the show based purely on the random and often hilarious comments people leave below the song’s music video online? Each week a different member of the Radio 2 presenting family voices the real-life comments. This week it's Sophie Ellis-Bexter's turn! All stabs in the dark and educated guesses are welcome! Our genial host wraps things up with a ‘Midnight Feast’ track. Think big production, lush orchestration, and the best voices in the business!
