DJ Spoony shines a spotlight on the first artefact he has selected from the V&A East Museum's first landmark exhibition, celebrating Black British Music.

Feel-good dancefloor favourites, hidden gems and fresh new tunes to make you groove. DJ Spoony serves up a brilliant selection of soulful house, classic soul, disco, RnB, UK Garage, Reggae, hip hop, doo-wop, funk, dance remixes, and much more. Our genial host also unveils his ‘New 2 Spoon’ record of the week.

DJ Spoony shines a spotlight on the first artefact he has selected from the V&A East Museum's first landmark exhibition, celebrating Black British Music. With the exhibition's curator Jacqueline Springer, Spoony reflects on his own career and the significance of UK garage, discussing the influential club night Twice as Nice.

In the coming month Spoony will bring his selection of items to life, by enlisting the help of Alesha Dixon, Pauline Black of The Selecter, Level 42's Mark King, Beverley Knight, Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, designer Isabell Kristensen, Morcheeba, Omar, The Cookie Crew, The Kingdom Choir's Karen Gibson MBE and Professor James Walvin OBE, Rampage Sounds, Fabio & Grooverider as well as archive of Sir Elton John and Sir Idris Elba! It's all part of the pan BBC 'The Music Is Black' season in collaboration with the V&A East Museum.

Spoony’s alter-ego ‘Dr Beat’ is also on hand to prescribe a musical pick-me-up for a lucky listener. Whether your Monday has gone spectacularly off the rails, you’re recovering from an eventful weekend, or you simply need a track to mark a special occasion, get in touch for a “telephone consultation” in exchange for the perfect tune to match your situation! Text 88291, WhatsApp 08000 288 291 or e-mail spoony@bbc.co.uk.

The ‘Midnight Feast’ track wraps up each show. Think big production, lush orchestration, and the best voices in the business!
