In September the Queen will become Britain's longest serving monarch. Royal Biographer Christopher Warwich and Tudor expert Sarah Gristwood discuss British Queens. In 2000, the UN adopted eight Millenium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015. How successful have they been? Penny Lawrence from Oxfam and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka from UN Women discuss their impact on women. Newsnight's Political Editor Allegra Stratton takes a look at how women will influence the outcome of the 2015 General Election. Following an impressive new financial deal for women's tennis and the growing popularity of women's football, has women's sport finally come of age? We take a look at women's achievements in sport this year and ahead at the sporting events of 2015 with Eleanor Oldroyd. And another chance to hear our June interview with Angelina Jolie.

On September 10th 2015, the Queen will become Britain’s longest serving monarch. She will beat the record of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. How does she compare to other queens in British history and how has her experience differed to theirs? Jane talks to Royal biographer Christopher Warwick, author of Her Majesty, and to Tudor expert Sarah Gristwood.

General Election 2015

On May 7th next year, Britain goes to the polls to vote in a General Election which will be fought off the back of five years of austerity. Women have been more affected by the cuts and it is the female vote that all the political partys will be making careful efforts to court over the next four months. Allegra Stratton, Newnight’s Political Editor joins Jane to look at how the politicians will be trying to appeal to women voters.

Millennium Development Goals

2015 is the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals [MDG]. They were developed in 2000 as a set of eight targets aimed at eradicating global poverty and human suffering within 15 years.  But were the MDGs a little too ambitious? For example, one of the goals suggested was that by 2015, all children of primary school age in the world should be in education. UN research shows that this will not be achieved for another 75 years.  Jane will be discussing how successful or otherwise the MDGs have been with Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.  They will be joined by Penny Lawrence, Deputy Chief Executive of Oxfam.

Women's Sports 2015

The Women’s Tennis Association has just signed a new deal to bring more money into Women’s tennis, in August the RFU announced that it would be giving contracts to 20 female rugby players and the last England women’s football match was a sell-out…..so, is women’s sport finally getting serious about money and publicity? We look back at female sporting achievements of 2014 and look ahead to 2015.
