Radio Newcastle and Sunderland AFC sign new three-year commentary deal

BBC Radio Newcastle has signed a new three-year commentary deal with Sunderland AFC.

The tie-up means Radio Newcastle will continue to transmit live full match commentaries of all Sunderland games until the end of the 2010-11 season.

Commentator Nick Barnes and Sunderland legend Gary Bennett have formed a popular partnership, covering Sunderland games, home and away, for the last five seasons and the duo are looking forward to continuing their coverage of the Black Cats.

Nick said: "The past five seasons have been very memorable for myself and Gary so it's fantastic to sign up for a further three seasons."

Sunderland AFC's Marketing and Communications Director Lesley Callaghan said: "We are very pleased to be continuing our commentary partnership with BBC Radio Newcastle and look forward to working closely with the station over the next three years.

"BBC Radio Newcastle have demonstrated their ongoing commitment to and support for Sunderland AFC and I'm confident that our fans will continue to enjoy a first-class service from our official commentary partner."

Radio Newcastle Managing Editor Andrew Robson added: "We're delighted to continue the relationship with Sunderland AFC. You won't miss a single kick by listening to BBC Radio Newcastle, broadcasting on analogue and digital and all over the world via the club's website safc.com."
