BBC wins Challenge Cup to 2011 and live international Rugby League

Challenge Cup rugby will be broadcast exclusively live on the BBC up to and including the 2011 tournament following a new deal announced today by BBC Sport and the Rugby Football League (RFL).

The new deal also includes rights to broadcast live international Rugby League on the BBC for the first time since 2000.

The agreement includes TV and online rights for the Carnegie Challenge Cup and two live international matches each autumn including one featuring England.

In addition the BBC will have highlights rights to all other England international matches and the Super League.

The new deal extends the current contract by a further three years from 2008.

BBC Sport Director of Sport Rights, Dominic Coles, said: "We're delighted to be adding live international Rugby League to our already extensive coverage of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

"With Super League highlights also included, the BBC now holds an impressive portfolio of Rugby League rights, demonstrating our commitment to the sport and to its fans."
