Sinead Moynihan in Drop Dead Gorgeous

Press Releases

Comedy makes a hit on BBC Three

BBC Three's unrivalled reputation for contemporary comedy continues as Drop Dead Gorgeous returns for a second series and Ideal, starring Johnny Vegas, returns for a third.

Julian Bellamy, Controller BBC Three, said: "Drop Dead Gorgeous and Ideal are real examples of the channel's commitment to comedy - I'm delighted to have established names like Johnny Vegas alongside newcomers like Sinead Moynihan on BBC Three."

Written and created by Carmel Morgan (The Royle Family; Shameless; Coronation Street), alongside Stephen Russell and Jan McVerry, the new series of Drop Dead Gorgeous will follow Ashley's (Sinead Moynihan) glittering career on the international catwalk.

Murray, Ashley's smarmy agent (played by Lee Boardman) returns to mastermind her career which contrasts with her working-class family's fluctuating fortunes back in Runcorn, Cheshire.

Kathryn Hunt and Conor McIntyre return as Ashley's mum and dad, Pauline and Terry.

Produced by Hat Trick North, the series goes into production in 2007.

In Ideal Johnny Vegas again appears as the hapless, small-time dope dealer Moz, trying to stay one step ahead of the law, despite his everyday catalogue of murder, mayhem and madness.

Ideal is a co-production between BBC Comedy North and Baby Cow.

Written by Graham Duff, Ideal's producer is Jane Berthoud (Help), director is Ben Gregor and executive producers are Kenton Allen and Henry Normal.

Both shows are commissioned by Julian Bellamy, Controller of BBC Three.
