The BBC has extended its current contract with the annual Stella Artois Tennis Championships at The Queen's Club for a further two years to cover 2008 and 2009.

The extension of this agreement gives BBC Sport the rights to broadcast live and/or delayed coverage of the Stella Artois Championships on all platforms including television, radio, internet and mobile telephony.

Barbara Slater, BBC Head of General Sport, said: "We are very proud of our long association with the Stella Artois Championships and extremely pleased that it will continue until 2009."

An average of one million viewers watched Lleyton Hewitt beat James Blake in the final of this year's tournament on Sunday 18 June on BBC TWO.

During the tournament 213,000 viewers watched the BBCi interactive service.

BBC Sport now looks forward to further tennis coverage from Wimbledon beginning on Monday 26 June, providing live coverage on television, radio and online, for the first time ever.

BBC television coverage will be live on BBC ONE and BBC TWO from noon to 8.00pm.

The daily highlights programme Today at Wimbledon will be on BBC TWO at 8.00pm.
