BBC NI is the host broadcaster for the funeral proceedings for George Best on Saturday 3 December 2005 at the Great Hall at Stormont.

Following a special tribute edition of the sports magazine programme Season Ticket at 9.00am, live television coverage will start at 9.30am on BBC ONE NI.

The BBC Newsline special edition will be co-hosted by Noel Thompson in studio and Donna Traynor at Stormont.

It will feature interviews and reports from along the cortege route as well as the full funeral service.

The televised funeral coverage will be streamed live by BBC News Interactive at bbc.co.uk/news.

BBC Radio Ulster will, from 9.55am, bring the funeral proceedings in full, along with comprehensive reports from along the route.

Wendy Austin will present the three hour programme, featuring discussion in studio with sports journalist and personal friend of the Best family, Gordon Burns, and BBC NI's Adam Coates.

The programme will be broadcast live to listeners of BBC GMR in Manchester and it will report on events in Manchester city centre where giant screens have been set up to televise the funeral proceedings.

Later this month BBC ONE NI will celebrate the football genius of George Best in a special themed evening of programmes tracing the story of the elfast boy who became the best known footballer in the world.

The Best Night will be shown on Thursday 29 December 2005 from 10.00pm.
