The post for Controller of CBBC will be advertised next week, following the announcement that Alison Sharman will be leaving shortly to join ITV.
Richard Deverell, currently Chief Operating Officer for CBBC, will care-take the role until the new appointment is made.
Alan Yentob, the BBC's Director for Drama and Entertainment and CBBC, said of Alison's departure: "We are obviously sad Alison is leaving, but we wish her all the very best in her new role.
"The CBBC senior team have worked hard to ensure that the right direction and structure are in place to take CBBC to the next level in providing excellent content to children.
"We have an incredibly talented and creative team in CBBC so I'm pleased to say that we are now in a better place than ever to deliver for our young audiences.
"We now look forward to building on the success Alison and the CBBC team have made in meeting the digital challenge."
Alison Sharman became Controller for CBBC in June 2005 and prior to that was Controller for BBC Daytime.
