The BBC has today published its Guidelines for coverage of the forthcoming General Election.
The Guidelines, approved by the Board of Governors, will come into effect on the day on which the Prime Minister offers his resignation to the Queen and the General Election date is announced.
Available at www.bbc.co.uk/info/policies, the Guidelines outline the considerations necessary for the BBC to achieve a balance between parties, and between candidates and in reporting public opinion.
They apply across all BBC programmes and services, and take full account of the effects of devolution in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Guidelines supplement and replace sections of the BBC Producers' Guidelines.
