BBC Chairman Michael Grade is to be guest of honour at this year's Ruby Awards.

The awards, held in the National Railway Museum in York on Monday 16 May, celebrate the best of BBC regional news television.

They are being held this year in Yorkshire following the success of the region's 6.30pm news programme - Look North - which won Best Evening News Programme last year.

BBC Director of Nations and Regions, Pat Loughrey, said: "The Rubys, our annual celebration of the best of the Nations and Regions' television news programmes, have been extended this year to recognise the talents and achievements of our current affairs and political journalists.

"It's been a significant year for news across our nations and regions.

"I am looking forward to another excellent evening celebrating the talent responsible for the most-watched news and current affairs programmes in the UK."

Twelve awards will be presented this year during the evening.

The categories are: Outstanding Camera Work, Outstanding Craft Skills in Post-Production, Broadcast of Diversity Issues, Best TV News Journalist, Best Current Affairs Film, Best News Film, Best Audience Generated Content, Best Political Programme, Best Exclusive Story, Best Current Affairs Programme, Best Presentation Team and Best Evening News Programme.

Judges include: Adrian Van Klaveren, Controller of Production and Deputy Director, BBC News; Roger Mosey, Head of BBC Television News; BBC News presenters Huw Edwards and Sian Williams; BBC News reporters Ben Brown and Paul Kenyon; Rosemary Richards, Editor of the BBC's Video Nation; Peter Barron, Editor of BBC TWO's Newsnight; BBC Executive Producer, Current Affairs and Business programmes, Paul Woolwich; and Lisa Lambden, Head of BBC Newcastle.
