Veteran comedian and broadcaster Cyril Fletcher, who appeared on many BBC radio and television programmes including BBC ONE's That's Life, has died.

Former That's Life presenter Esther Rantzen paid tribute: "He will be tremendously and fondly remembered by the millions who enjoyed his odes and wit on That's Life.

"He was an established and much loved figure when he joined us and we were very lucky to have the pleasure of his company both professionally and personally."

A BBC spokesperson said: "Cyril Fletcher appeared on BBC Television from its earliest days at Alexandra Palace in the 1930s and made countless BBC radio and television appearances.

"He will be best remembered by many with great fondness for his weekly contribution from the armchair on That's Life. Our thoughts are with his family."
