Sally Gunnell will join BBC South East Today on 1 October 2004 to present the Friday night sport report programme for 10 weeks.

Sally Gunnell OBE is one of the greatest female athletes this country has ever produced and the only woman in history to have ever concurrently held all four major championship gold medals - Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European - as well as the World record.

Following her retirement from athletics in September 1997, Sally entered the media arena.

Today she is an integral member of the BBC Sport broadcasting team, a role she has undertaken since 1999.

BBC South East Today's Output Editor, Quentin Smith, says: "I am delighted that Sally is joining the team. She'll be a valued member with all her wealth of experience."

Sally is thrilled to be joining the team at South East Today as she lives in Brighton.

"I'm very excited to be joining BBC South East Today especially as I'm a local!," she says.

"Being able to cover local sporting talent and not just the big names really appeals to me. Giving them a platform to encourage and develop what they are doing is fantastic."

Sally, an energetic mother of two, soon to be mother of three, says: "I'm five months pregnant, I'll be rather large sitting on the sofa but it'll be fun!"
