BBC Radio Leicester is getting ready for the off at a special charity race-night at Oadby Racecourse.

On Tuesday 18 May, sports presenter Jon Barber will broadcast live from the event between 6.00 and 7.00pm, and there'll even be a race named after the station!

The evening is being staged to raise money for the British Red Cross.

Tickets cost £11 – but listeners to BBC Radio Leicester can pick up 2 for 1 tickets by calling into reception.

The BBC Radio Leicester Maiden Stakes has prize money totalling £8,000 and will be run over five furlongs.

Former Grand National jockey, and Radio Leicester's racing correspondent, Patrick O'Connor, is also going to be there - reporting on all the action at the course.

From 3.00 to 5.00pm, Rupal Rajani will be broadcasting from behind the scenes at Oadby during the build up to the race.

She'll be talking to stable hands and groundsmen and will see the plotting of the course.

Kate Squire, Editor, BBC Radio Leicester, says: "This event is going to raise lots of money for the British Red Cross and it's also going to be a lot of fun."

Coverage of the race night can be heard on BBC Radio Leicester on 104.9FM.
