 New
editor for BBC Radio Leeds
The
new Managing Editor of BBC Radio Leeds has been appointed.
John
Ryan, previously responsible for marketing the BBC's regional
TV, local radio and Where I Live website services, will be taking
over the position from Monday 19 January.
Mr
Ryan said: "I am delighted to be returning to Yorkshire where
I began my career with the BBC. I am looking forward to working
with a fantastic team of broadcasters and making some great programmes
for the future."
Born
in Surrey, he began his career with the BBC in 1987 as a programme
assistant at Radio York and quickly became presenter of Drivetime.
A year
later, he left to head further north to BBC Radio Newcastle and
spent three years hosting the Breakfast programme before joining
the BBC's Radio Training Unit as an instructor.
He
spent a further five years with BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC Southern
Counties Radio before leaving to launch Canterbury's new commercial
radio station, 106 CTFM.
He
re-joined the BBC in 1999 when he became Editor of BBC Radio Northampton.
Colin
Philpott, head of the BBC in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, said: "John
has extensive experience in radio, including the commercial sector.
That, together with his work in marketing, makes him ideally suited
to running a big city station like Radio Leeds."
