HARDtalk with Christopher Shays, US Republican Congressman

Christopher Shays, United States Republican Congressman, is interviewed by Tim Sebastian on BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight.

Christopher Shays was the first US Congressman to visit Iraq after the war ended and he maintains the world is now a safer place without the threat of Saddam Hussein.

But as the number of US servicemen killed in Iraq rises by the day, Shays believes US forces will not be leaving Iraq any time soon.

He says the war against terror is a cause President Bush believes in passionately and if the battle is not brought to the terrorists, the terrorists will bring it to the United States.

He talks to Tim Sebastian on BBC News 24's HARDtalk at 11.30pm today (Thursday 24 July 2003).

All the BBC's digital services are now available on Freeview, the new free-to-view digital terrestrial television service, as well as on satellite and cable.
