  HARDtalk
with the President of Chile
President
Ricardo Lagos, the President of Chile, is interviewed on BBC News
24's HARDtalk by Tim Sebastian tonight.
Chile
has just signed a trade deal with the United States, to the enormous
relief of those Chilean and American businessmen who stand to gain
from it and had spent months working on it.
For
a while the deal looked in danger, as Chile resolutely opposed the
war in Iraq. Suddenly
the deal went cold and it has only been signed after a delay and
intensive lobbying.
So
how are US-Chilean relations? Does this show that it is possible
to be an ally of the United States and still oppose their foreign
policy?
HARDtalk
with the President of Chile is on BBC News 24 at 11.30pm today (Wednesday
16 July 2003).
