HARDtalk with Hussain al-Shahristani, Iraqi defector and activist

Hussain al-Shahristani, Iraqi defector and activist, is interviewed on BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight.

Many Iraqis who fled Saddam Hussein's regime are now returning to help rebuild their country.

Among them is Hussain al-Shahristani, who was chief scientific adviser to the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission.

He was jailed by Saddam Hussein but managed to flee his prison when it was bombed during the first Gulf War. He now works for a humanitarian organisation.

He talks to Jon Sopel about his first visit to Iraq in the aftermath of the war.

HARDtalk is on BBC News 24 at 11.30pm today (Tuesday 3 June 2003).

All the BBC's digital services are now available on Freeview, the new free-to-view digital terrestrial television service, as well as on satellite and cable.

Freeview offers the BBC's eight television channels, interactive services from BBCi, as well as 11 BBC radio networks.
