HARDtalk: Hatsuhisa Takashima

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Monday 2 June), Tim Sebastian talks to Hatsuhisa Takashima, Japanese foreign ministry spokesman.

Aid to the developing world is high on the agenda at the G8 meeting, which started in Paris on 1 June.

But for one of the G8 members, Japan, domestic issues may prove even more pressing.

There are rumours of splits within the Government over how to tackle North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi may have strengthened ties with the United States, but his critics accuse him of ignoring Japan's domestic economic troubles.

Hatsuhisa Takashima is a spokesman for Japan's foreign ministry. Tim Sebastian asks him whether Koizumi could pay the price for his diplomatic successes.

HARDtalk is on BBC News 24 at 11.30pm.
