BBC gold for the Commonwealth Games
At
last night's sparkling RTS Sports Awards, the BBC added six gongs
to its trophy cabinet as the television industry paid tribute to
BBC Sport talent both on and off screen across the nation.
Coverage
of the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games on both BBC ONE
and BBC TWO added the RTS Live Outside Broadcast of the Year Award
to the BAFTA received earlier in the year as the success of the
Manchester Games continues to be recognised across the television
industry.
On
screen BBC presenters were honoured as Gary Lineker took
Sports Presenter of the Year and in Southampton, BBC South Today's
Roger Johnson was recognised as Regional Sports Presenter of
the Year.
BBC
Scotland's hard hitting Grasping the Thistle picked up Regional
Sports Programme of the Year while the snowy slopes of Kitzbuhel
2002 in Ski Sunday took Sports Series of the Year.
Sports
Documentary of the Year went to BBC FOUR's The Game of their
Lives charting the fortunes of the North Korean World Cup team
of 1966.
BBC
Director of Sport Peter Salmon said: "2002 was a very busy
year for BBC Sport and I'm delighted that the efforts of our presentation
and production talent continue to be rewarded."
