 Tomorrow
La Scala! triumphs at the Indie Awards
Tomorrow
La Scala! scooped the award for best drama at the Indie Awards.
Written
and directed by award-winning documentary film maker Francesca Joseph,
the critically acclaimed Tomorrow La Scala! stars Jessica Stevenson
as the director of an opera company which is putting on a performance
of Steven Sondheim's Sweeney Todd in a maximum security prison using
lifers as the chorus.
Tomorrow
La Scala!, which also stars Samantha Spiro, Shaun Dingwall and Daniel
Evans, made its debut with a successful screening at the Cannes
film festival in 2002 before being shown on BBC TWO.
The
film was jointly developed by BBC TWO, BBC Films and The Film Council
under a scheme which provides a springboard for directors working
in other disciplines (notably television and advertising) to launch
themselves into feature film making.
It
was co-produced by Chris Collins for Home Movies Productions and
Ruth Caleb for BBC Films.
At
the awards ceremony on Wednesday 5 March 2003, the BBC also won
the New Media category with Test The Nation.
Three
BBC Films selected for Cannes (15.5.02)
