HARDtalk: Vincent Cable and Caroline Atkinson

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Thursday 6 March 2003), Tanya Beckett interviews Vincent Cable, Economist and British MP and Caroline Atkinson, former US Treasury Adviser.

With war with Iraq looking ever more likely, questions are being asked about how much it will cost, and how the world's economies will cope.

Estimates of the cost of war vary wildly, but experts do agree that an oil shock could result and that the consequences could be severe.

But Britain's Institute of Directors recently released a report saying that there could be real benefits to a short, successful war.

Tanya Beckett asks Vincent Cable and Caroline Atkinson if the world can afford to go to war and if it can afford not to?

Notes to Editors

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC News 24, Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, and is repeated Tuesday to Saturday at 2.30am.
