 Fiona
Bruce to front the Real Story
Fiona
Bruce will present a new current affairs magazine programme
for BBC ONE.
Real
Story, beginning Monday 10 March 2003 at 7.30pm, will be built
around key characters who will give a human face to the week's big
stories.
Produced
by the BBC's network current affairs unit in Manchester, Real Story
will have a three series run of 28 programmes.
Close
working links with both BBC News and the BBC's Nations and Regions
will enable the programme to draw on a massive story gathering base
and use the UK's brightest and best on-screen talent.
Commissioned
by BBC ONE Controller Lorraine Heggessey and the BBC's Head of Current
Affairs, Peter Horrocks, Real Story will have the flexibility to
cover late breaking stories and will "go live" when required.
The
programme will generally feature three items, but will have the
capacity to change to single subject if stories merit longer treatment.
Fiona
Bruce, who will also report on a number of issues throughout the
series, said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge.
"It's
a fantastic opportunity for me to get my teeth into stories that
I hope will get people talking, and really connect with their lives."
Peter
Horrocks added: "Real Story will be a valuable addition to
our story telling capacity. It will be popular current affairs,
but with BBC values."
Lorraine
Heggessey said: "There's a fine tradition of current affairs
magazine journalism on BBC ONE and this will continue with Real
Story."
Real
Story will be edited by Dave Stanford and the series producer will
be Mike Lewis.
