HARDtalk: asylum debate

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Wednesday 5 February 2003), Mike Embley introduces a debate about the British asylum system, under attack with allegations that it is out of control and without proper regulation.

The issue exercising the British Government and opposition parties is how to establish a system for dealing with asylum seekers which is humane and yet safeguards the public from a potential terrorist threat.

Mike Embley talks to Claude Moraes, Labour MEP and former Head of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, and Simon Heffer, Daily Mail Columnist.

Notes to Editors

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC News 24, Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, and is repeated Tuesday to Saturday at 2.30am.
