BBC GMR goes from strength to strength

BBC GMR today (30 January 2003) celebrated as the latest official RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) figures were announced.

The station has increased its listeners by 30,000 in three months and has also seen its audience share rise from 5.9% to 7% on last year.

BBC GMR Managing Editor Steve Taylor is delighted with the increased number of regular listeners: "We are very pleased to see that our audience continues to grow. We have made a lot of changes over the last 18 months and clearly more people like what we are doing."

Andy Griffee, BBC Controller, English Regions, adds: "BBC Local Radio goes from strength to strength. I'm delighted that in an increasingly competitive market, it has again more than held its own.

"Our local radio services are a precious part of how we connect with the communities we serve. We'll forge ahead with plans to maintain and build on this vote of confidence and I congratulate the talented and committed people who run BBC Local Radio."
