HARDtalk: Majid Al Alawi

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Friday 3 January), Tim Sebastian interviews Majid Al Alawi, Bahraini Minister for Social Affairs.

After the first democratic national elections to be held in over a quarter of a century, Bahrain has just formed a new Government.

Dr Majid Al Alawi, a former dissident, is one of the country's new Ministers.

The Government faces some tough challenges: though Bahrain is home to the US Fifth Fleet, the King of Bahrain recently announced that he was opposed to any unilateral military strike against Iraq.

Notes to Editors

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC News 24, Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, and is repeated Tuesday to Saturday at 2.30am.
