John
Farren has been appointed Editor of the BBC's award-winning Timewatch
strand and will join the BBC History Unit in January 2003.
Laurence
Rees, Creative Director, History, became Timewatch Editor in 1993
and has continued to edit the strand since his appointment as Creative

"I've
continued to edit the strand since I took up the post of Creative
Director, History, two years ago," says Laurence Rees.
"But I am very pleased now that we can bring someone new to
Timewatch with the appointment of John Farren as strand editor.
"He
will work to me as Creative Director allowing me more time to concentrate
on developing future BBC history projects.
"John
has an extremely strong track record as an Executive Producer in
History and I'm sure he'll do a fantastic job."
John
Farren is currently with The Scottish Media Group where his credits
include The Charge of the Light Brigade, Magic at War, Ramadan Diaries
and The Real Shirley Bassey.
Previously,
he was an Executive Producer at Granada Television where his credits

Hotel and the religious observational series Northern Rites.
He
joined the BBC in 1990 as a News Trainee, and his BBC credits include
Children's Hospital, Reputations, Decisive Weapons and Airport.
"I
am delighted to be rejoining the BBC after four years away,"

BBC History has a world-wide reputation second to none, and I can't
wait to get started."
