 Peter
Sissons leaves the BBC Ten O'Clock News
Peter
Sissons is to leave the Ten O'clock news - after presenting the
main BBC ONE evening news for eight years - but will continue to
appear on other BBC news oulets.
He
has signed a further two year contract to stay with BBC News.
Among other projects, he will be a regular presenter on BBC News
24 and will deputise for David Frost on BBC ONE's Breakfast With
Frost.
Peter
said: "I have been thinking seriously, for nearly a year, about
whether the time has come for me to leave the Ten.
"It's
important for me to move on, and look for a new challenge.
"I
am proud of the work I have done on the programme, especially seeing
my advocacy of the move to ten o'clock pay off.
"But
the one type of news programme I have never been involved in, is
continuous news. I am looking forward to the challenge enormously,
especially of running with breaking news stories."
Peter
joined the BBC in 1989 as presenter of Question Time, the BBC's
weekly political discussion forum, as well as joint presenter of
the BBC's Six O'clock News.
He moved to The Nine O'clock News in January 1994 and stayed with
the programme when it moved to its new time.
